French Classroom Management System | Jars & Hearts

A key component of teaching is learning how to manage your classroom in a way that allows your students to become confident, collaborative, and content learners.

When I started teaching Junior French Immersion (Grades 4-6), I realized that getting my students to buy into a classroom management system was…challenging. There was a constant struggle between finding a system that embraced positive reinforcement and that also challenged them to work together to achieve a common goal.

That’s how this jar system came to be! Each month, when we move the desks around students are put into new groups (they get to also pick a team name) where they work to earn hearts for their group jar. The group that has the most hearts at the end of the month has the opportunity to select one of three envelopes that contain a mystery prize for the entire class.

No more stress, no more tears, and no more complaining that things aren't fair. Just a group of kids, working together and lifting each other up so the entire class gets a win!
